Public consultation is now underway on a proposed regulation aimed at strengthening mine rehabilitation requirements across NSW.
NSW Resources is seeking feedback on the Mining Amendment (Mine Rehabilitation) Regulation 2026, which would vary standard conditions applied to mining leases under the Mining Regulation 2016.
Proposed changes include amending the definition of a ‘large mine’ and clarifying requirements for forward programs, rehabilitation reports and rehabilitation completion statements. The regulation would also allow the publication of a summary of a rehabilitation cost estimate, rather than the full estimate, alongside a forward program.
A public information webinar on the proposed regulation will be held at 11am on Thursday, 21 May. Members of the public can register through the NSW Resources website, where the consultation draft regulation and an explanatory guide are also available.
