NSW households can now apply for zero-interest loans of up to $15,000 to install energy-saving upgrades, as part of the State Government’s Home Energy Saver program.

The $557 million program is designed to help families reduce their power bills by making energy-efficient upgrades more affordable. Eligible households can borrow up to $15,000 and repay it over ten years, covering upgrades including rooftop solar, household batteries, insulation, reverse-cycle air conditioning, switchboard upgrades, ceiling fans and draught-proofing.

Zero-interest loans are available to households with a combined taxable income of up to $210,000. The loan component represents a $480 million government commitment and is expected to benefit more than 32,000 households across NSW.

In addition to loans, targeted discounts of up to $4,000 will be made available later in 2026 to households earning up to $80,000 annually, or those holding eligible concession cards. Renters will also be able to access discounts to make upgrades with their landlord’s permission, as part of a $77 million commitment.

The government said just over half of all homes in NSW are already equipped with rooftop solar, with 13,000 new home batteries being installed each month.
