Demolition of the 25‑metre pool enclosure at the Singleton Gym and Swim Centre is continuing, with works progressing on schedule.
A major milestone was reached last week with the removal of the enclosure’s internal steel frame. The steel arches, each weighing around 700 kilograms, were cut and lifted out by crane during a week‑long operation before being cut into smaller sections on site for recycling.
Early stages of the project involved removing lighting, air‑conditioning, ducting and electrical wiring, followed by the external membrane and ventilation structures.
Despite two days of high winds and wet weather, Singleton Council says the complete demolition of the enclosure remains on track for completion by the end of May.
At last night’s Council meeting Council confirmed that a tender process is currently ongoing for a potential like-for-like replacement of the pool, though it was emphasised that the current shell structure of the pool is stable and safe for use.
Council are still looking into options for a heated pool option for winter swimmers.
