Three men have died in unrelated incidents across the Hunter region over the weekend, including two motorcycle crashes and a fatal stabbing.
About 2.45pm on Saturday, emergency services were called to Leggetts Drive, Pelaw Main, about two kilometres south of Kurri Kurri, following reports of a crash between a car and a motorcycle. The rider, a 58-year-old man, was treated at the scene by paramedics but could not be revived. The driver of the car, a 72-year-old woman, was taken to John Hunter Hospital for mandatory testing. Leggetts Drive was closed for up to six hours on Saturday as investigators attended the scene.
Earlier the same day, about 7.15am, police were called to Clyde Street, Hamilton North, following reports of a motorcycle crash. Officers from Newcastle City Police District found a motorcycle had crashed into a fence. The rider, a 55-year-old man, died at the scene.
In a separate incident, emergency services were called to Hassall Street, Hamilton South, about 3.30pm on Saturday, following reports of a stabbing. Officers found a man believed to be in his 40s suffering a stab wound. He was treated by paramedics and taken to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition, before police were notified a short time later that he had died in hospital.
A crime scene has been established at Hamilton South and is undergoing forensic examination, with Newcastle detectives investigating alongside the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.
Investigations into all three incidents are continuing, and reports will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
