A new electric vehicle charger is now operating in Merriwa, improving access for both locals and visitors travelling through the Upper Hunter.
Upper Hunter Shire Council partnered with EVX after identifying an opportunity to support the town as the company expanded its regional charging network. The pole‑mounted charger was installed using much of the existing power infrastructure and took around a day to complete.
While the charger is not a fast‑charging unit, council says it offers an important benefit for the town, encouraging visitors to stop, spend time locally and support Merriwa businesses while their vehicle charges.
Council has welcomed initiatives that improve regional connectivity and help attract more visitors to Upper Hunter communities as electric vehicle use continues to grow.
