Pest animal numbers have been significantly reduced across the Merriwa–Cassilis area following a coordinated aerial control program conducted in March.

Hunter Local Land Services says 74 properties participated in the operation, which focused on priority zones including Wybong Heights and Reedy Valley. The program was delivered in partnership with landholders and supported by industry.

Results from the program included the control of 3,219 feral pigs and 525 fallow deer, along with goats, foxes and other priority pest species.

Hunter Local Land Services says the coordinated approach across neighbouring properties helps reduce reinfestation and strengthens long‑term pest management outcomes.

The organisation’s biosecurity team is now encouraging property owners and land managers to get in touch if they are interested in strengthening pest control on their land, with support and advice available across the Upper Hunter.
