A man will face court today after being charged over an alleged domestic violence incident in the Hunter Valley.
Police say about 2.30am on Sunday 12 April, officers from the Hunter Valley Police District began investigating reports of an alleged domestic violence offence at a unit on North Avenue in Cessnock.
It’s alleged a man known to the female occupant forced entry to the unit, threatened her with an object believed to be a firearm, assaulted her and made threats to kill her before leaving a short time later.
Following inquiries by Hunter Valley detectives, with assistance from Tactical Police and negotiators, a 34‑year‑old man was arrested about 4.30pm yesterday at a unit on North Avenue, Cessnock.
He was taken to Cessnock Police Station and charged with contravene prohibition or restriction in an AVO, use carriage service to menace, harass or offend, specially aggravated enter dwelling with intent while armed with a dangerous weapon, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in a domestic violence context.
The man was refused bail and is due to appear before court today.
