Sharp rise in DV assaults prompts call for extra $

A massive rise in the number of domestic assaults in the Upper Hunter has led to a call for urgent intervention from the State Government.

The call comes as the Hunter Domestic and Family Violence Consortium delivers its pre-budget submission to the State Government.

DV-related assaults in Muswellbrook have climbed by 49.6 percent in the last two years.

AVO breaches have increased by 10 percent in the past five years.

Sexual assaults have risen by 10.7 percent in the past five years.

Lisa Ronneberg from the Consortium said organisations like Upper Hunter Homeless Support desperately require funding for more resources.
