Last local WW2 veteran attends ANZAC DAY commemoration

Thousands of people have gathered en mass across the Upper Hunter to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom we live with today.

Reports of bumper crowds from our small towns and villages through to the larger centres like Singleton and Muswellbrook.

An estimated two thousand locals were present at the main morning service in Burdekin Park…attended by our last surviving World War Two veteran Graham Curtis.

The 99-year-old laid a wreath at the cenotaph to honour the mates he went to war with.

He said ANZAC Day to me is like Christmas and Easter.

“I hope we’ve always got it.”
