A 40-year-old man has been arrested and charged after allegedly harassing a 15-year-old school student earlier this year, as part of a major statewide operation targeting sexual offending on public transport.
Police arrested the man on Main Street, Scone, at 10am last Wednesday. It is alleged he harassed and intimidated the teenage student at Lidcombe Railway Station on a Tuesday in June. He was taken to Muswellbrook Police Station, where he was charged with harassing and intimidating a school student attending school. He was granted conditional bail to appear before Burwood Local Court on Tuesday, September 22.
The arrest came during Operation Savete, a three-day policing operation run by the Police Transport Command targeting sexual offending in and around the public transport network. The operation ran from Tuesday, August 25 to Thursday, August 27, with 160 officers deployed across the state in both high-visibility and covert roles, resulting in 57 arrests.
