Rents increase in the Hunter since COVID-19

The Hunter region is reportedly among the top 10 regions in Australia for rental increases since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Herald reports research from Everybody’s Home found typical weekly asking rents have risen $183 in the Hunter since June 2020.

The increase translates to the typical household spending $9500 a year more on rent than they were in the early weeks of the pandemic.

The report says the average asking rent for apartments and houses is up 46 percent from $394 in June 2020 to $577.
