Mayor Jeff Drayton and Deputy Mayor De-anne Douglas have been re-elected to lead Muswellbrook Shire Council, following an Extra-Ordinary Meeting of Council on Tuesday 8 September.
Mayor Drayton was unanomously supported and ran unopposed, while Deputy Mayor Douglas won in a 5-4 vote against Councillor Morris.
Mayor Drayton said he was grateful for the confidence of his fellow councillors and proud to continue representing the Muswellbrook Shire community.
“I look forward to continuing to work with Councillors and Council staff to deliver for our community,” he said.
“Our focus needs to remain firmly on making sure Muswellbrook Shire gets the investment, infrastructure and opportunities it deserves.”
Deputy Mayor Douglas said she was grateful for the opportunity to continue in the role and build on the work of the past two years.
“I look forward to continuing to work alongside Mayor Drayton and Council to deliver positive outcomes for our community,” she said.
The election was held as part of council’s statutory mid-term mayoral election, which councils where the mayor is elected by councillors are required to hold two years after the ordinary council election. Council also voted on a new committee structure to more accurately reflect its functions, and appointed the chairs, deputy chairs and membership of those committees.
