Last year’s major fires near Merriwa and Sandy Hollow were a taste of what’s to come, according to a dire warning from the Australian Conservation Foundation.
The group says we’re already seeing emergency-level fires just a week into spring, and the federal government needs to urgently stop approving new coal and gas projects.
It comes after a large blaze broke out in the Northern Rivers yesterday, forcing campers to flee for their lives.

Last year the region was hit by some of the worst blazes since the devastating Black Summer, with Emergecy and Watch and Act alerts issued multiple times across the Upper Hunter region.
