A new flood-resilient bridge over Mudies Creek will open to traffic on Monday, 13 July, as part of efforts to strengthen regional infrastructure against severe weather.

Standing around five metres higher than the old crossing, the new 30-metre bridge has been built to withstand a one-in-100-year flood. The upgrade is designed to keep the route open for longer during severe weather events and allow it to reopen sooner once floodwaters recede.

The project forms part of the 133 million dollar Golden Highway program, jointly funded by the Federal and State Governments, and was delivered ahead of schedule. It included construction of the new single-span bridge and the realignment of a one-kilometre section of highway, delivering a smoother road surface alongside the new crossing.

Construction began in late 2024, with contractor Acciona employing up to 135 local and regional workers throughout the project.
