A Cessnock man accused of threatening to kill a woman at gunpoint has been refused bail following a court appearance.
Simon David Mumford, 34, was arrested on Monday during a high‑risk police operation that saw streets closed and tactical officers deployed in the town.
The court heard police allege Mumford waited for the woman in a car park before following her home, forcing his way into her unit and assaulting her. It is alleged he grabbed her by the throat before pointing a handgun at her head and making threats.
Prosecutors told the court an apprehended violence order was in place at the time and alleged Mumford contacted the woman 415 times between the 6th and 12th of April, including using portable CCTV equipment to monitor her movements.
Mumford’s lawyer applied for bail, citing a brain injury suffered in a truck crash last year, but the judge described the allegations as very serious and refused bail.
Mumford remains in custody and is due to face court in Newcastle in June.
