More than $183 million will be invested in road upgrades across regional NSW to support the transport of renewable energy infrastructure, with several projects planned for the Upper Hunter.

The funding will focus on improving safety and capacity on key routes used by oversized and overmass vehicles carrying wind and solar components. In the Upper Hunter, $68.2 million is going towards early works planned at Rixs Creek Bridge and the Liddell Interchange, along with planning for upgrades between Muswellbrook and Armidale.

The investment also covers upgrades to sections of the Golden Highway at Dubbo, Dunedoo, Jerrys Plains, Denman and Sandy Hollow.

Transport for NSW says design work is already underway, with community consultation to take place in coming months as project timelines are finalised.

The State Government says the upgrades will not only support the renewable energy transition, but also leave a lasting legacy of safer and more resilient roads for regional communities.
