Disaster assistance has been activated for six local government areas in New South Wales following recent bushfires. The affected LGAs include Central Coast, Mid Coast, Upper Hunter, Muswellbrook, Warrumbungle and Dubbo.
Initial assessments show homes have been destroyed and significant damage caused to private property, infrastructure, fencing and agricultural assets. The full extent of the damage will be confirmed as Rural Fire Service crews continue impact assessments.
The declarations trigger a range of support measures under the joint Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements. Assistance includes emergency accommodation, grants for uninsured low-income residents, and concessional loans for small businesses and primary producers.
Residents and businesses affected can contact Service NSW on 13 77 88 or visit service.nsw.gov.au for details on grants and recovery support. Donations should be made through GIVIT, the official disaster relief partner.
Federal Emergency Management Minister Kristy McBain said the government stands ready to support communities during this challenging time. NSW Recovery Minister Janelle Saffin added that the priority is to help people begin the difficult task of cleaning up and rebuilding.
