Okay, which Bond villain’s lair just blew up?

Mount Etna in Italy has just erupted and is now spewing large plumes of ash and smoke into the air.

Several explosions that progressively grew in strength were recorded early morning on Monday by Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology. Disruption caused by Mount Etna at the moment seems fairly minimal, however the full ferocity of the eruption has yet to be determined. A red alert was issued upon the initial eruption which halted flights, however this was soon downgraded and flights too and from the island are still undergoing with minimal issue.

The eruption itself though is unsurprising to experts as Mount Etna is currently one of the world’s most active volcanoes, and rarely does it cause any catastrophic or significant damage to the land or peoples. In fact the last time Mount Etna had a notable eruption was only back in February of this year.

It has been revealed that there does appear to be ash, gas, and rock moving at speed from the volcano down its side, this is known as pyroclastic flow. Whilst pyroclastic flow can be harmful and dangerous to the area, it has been indicated there is no imminent threat.

Experts currently monitoring the eruption has pointed the cause of the eruption was likely due to the volcanos crater collapsing, this being evident due to the material being carried down from the volcano.
