Anthony Albanese just served up some good news for anyone who loves a cold one at the pub. From August 1, 2025, the price of your draught beer isn’t going to creep up every six months like it normally does. The government is freezing the beer tax for two years, meaning the usual automatic increases on tap beer are on ice until mid‑2027.

Why does this matter? In a world where a pint in some cities can cost $15–$20, this freeze is a rare win in the cost‑of‑living chaos. Pubs and breweries have been doing it tough, with dozens closing their doors recently. This move gives them breathing room and gives us all a reason to actually leave the couch and meet mates at the bar.
It’s not across the board though… Bottled beer, tinnies and spirits are still stuck with their regular tax hikes. That’s why spirits producers are already grumbling about being left out. But for anyone who loves a frothy on tap, it’s a small but very real reason to celebrate!
