A man has died following a workplace incident at a construction site on the New England Highway at Tarro overnight.
Emergency services were called to the scene about 11.50pm on Thursday, following reports a man had been struck by a vehicle on the M1 to Raymond Terrace extension project.
Police say the man, aged 45, had been standing behind a parked truck when he was hit by a material transfer vehicle travelling towards it.
He died at the scene and is yet to be formally identified.
The driver was taken to Maitland Hospital for mandatory testing.
A crime scene has been established as officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District begin an investigation into the incident. SafeWork NSW has also been notified, and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
