Upper Hunter vet urges action to avoid ‘hot dogs’

There is just 48 hours of this heatwave left in the Upper Hunter.

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast the top temperature will to 22 and 23 on Wednesday and Thursday.

Before that though today we’re headed for 37 and tomorrow 38.

Dr Rachel Nugent from Pet Medical said we should make sure our dogs have a cool place to hang out for the next two days.

“Avoid taking dogs for walks or letting them exercise in the heat of the day should be avoided. Early morning is probably the best time,” she said.

The vet practice has had to treat a number of dogs for heat stroke over the past two weeks.
