Confusion reigns over the outcome of the of the State Election here in the Upper Hunter.
Nationals MP Dave Layzell took to social media overnight to claim victory despite his Labor opponent Peree Watson closing the gap after the counting of some pre-poll votes late yesterday.
Ms Watson is now only 381 votes behind, making the Upper Hunter one of the tightest results in the state.
But on his Facebook post last night Mr Layzell says on the numbers counted to date he is now in a position to declare that I will continue on as MP for the Upper Hunter.
The actual numbers have not been updated on the New South Wales Electoral Commission website since Monday morning.
