Two major clean‑energy developments in the Hunter have been included in a multibillion‑dollar pipeline of projects endorsed by the State Government through its new Investment Delivery Authority.
The AGL Hunter Energy Hub at Muswellbrook and a clean‑energy precinct proposed for the Port of Newcastle are among 16 projects given the green light to proceed to the next stage. The broader package represents $34.4 billion in potential private‑sector investment, most of which is tied to renewable and clean‑energy initiatives.
The Government says the Investment Delivery Authority has been established to fast‑track complex, high‑value proposals by improving coordination across departments and reducing administrative delays. While endorsement brings access to specialised support, all projects must still complete full planning, environmental and legislative assessments before construction can begin.
The inclusion of the two Hunter projects highlights the region’s growing role in the state’s energy transition, particularly as former coal‑generation sites are repurposed for new industries and port facilities adapt for future export demands.
Energy Minister Penny Sharpe said the endorsed projects will help “accelerate the NSW Electricity Roadmap to keep the lights on and make sure families and businesses have energy they can trust and afford.”
