Three men have been charged following an investigation into an alleged violent home invasion in Hamilton South last month, which left a 44‑year‑old man seriously injured.
Emergency services were called to Fowler Street about 8pm on 30 January, where police were told the man had been assaulted by three offenders armed with a machete, an axe and a mallet. The men allegedly stole cash and property before the victim fled to safety. He was later taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment.
Strike Force Arnstone was established to investigate the incident, leading to the arrests of two 28‑year‑old men earlier this month. Both were refused bail after appearing separately in the Bail Court Division and will return to Newcastle Local Court in March and April.
Detectives uncovered a second alleged attack on the same victim on 15 February, when he was knocked from an e‑bike on Beaumont Street, Hamilton, and assaulted by a man demanding his backpack.
As part of inquiries into both incidents, officers attended a Mayfield unit complex on Monday where a 32‑year‑old man allegedly climbed onto the roof armed with syringes. A police operation involving TOU specialists continued for several hours before the man was tasered and arrested.
He has since been charged with aggravated robbery with an offensive weapon, stalking, and assault with intent to rob in company, along with an outstanding warrant. He was refused bail.
