Telstra customers around Branxton are being advised to expect temporary mobile blackouts next week as the company upgrades the Leconfield mobile base station. The site will be transitioned to improved 4G and 5G capability, requiring it to be turned off at intervals between Monday 23 March and Sunday 29 March.
The works will only affect Telstra mobile services. Landline phones, NBN connections, satellite internet and mobile coverage from other providers will continue to operate normally during the upgrade period.
Telstra says any Triple Zero calls made from a Telstra mobile while the tower is offline will automatically divert to another mobile network if one is available, ensuring access to emergency services is maintained.
Customers can also continue making regular calls and sending texts by switching on Wi‑Fi Calling, which routes communications through a home or workplace internet connection rather than the mobile tower.
The company says the upgrades will ultimately improve coverage and capacity across the Branxton and Leconfield area once completed.
