Singleton Civic Centre will host the Hunter River Forum on Thursday, 27 August, bringing together the people, projects and partnerships working to improve the health and resilience of the Hunter River catchment.
Hunter Local Land Services is running the one-day event, which is designed for landholders, community groups, councils, researchers, environmental organisations and anyone with an interest in the future of the Hunter River. This year’s program combines leading scientific research with practical experience from landholders, community groups, Aboriginal organisations, local councils and natural resource management practitioners.
Sessions will include presentations on the RiverKeeper Program, Wollombi Brook restoration initiatives, flood recovery and resilience projects, Landcare-led riparian restoration, and collaborative partnership projects supporting healthy waterways.
The Forum follows the inaugural event held in Singleton in November 2023, which drew more than 150 people with an interest in the waterway. The Hunter River begins in the Barrington Tops and flows through Muswellbrook, Singleton and Maitland before reaching the Port of Newcastle, supplying water for towns, agriculture, power stations and mines across the region.
