Singleton Council has ruled out permanently closing the 25‑metre heated indoor pool at Singleton Gym + Swim, despite major structural issues forcing its temporary shutdown.
At this week’s meeting, councillors approved the immediate demolition of the dome enclosure after detailed engineering investigations found critical deterioration of the roof structure. An additional $2.9 million was also allocated to the project, taking the total budget to $6.68 million.
Mayor of Singleton Sue Moore said the decision was aimed at reopening the pool as quickly as possible, acknowledging the impact the closure has had on the community.
The indoor pool was closed and drained in November last year to allow for filtration upgrades and mechanical repairs. During that closure, further investigations revealed the extent of the roof damage.
Council will receive another report at its April meeting outlining long‑term options, including replacing the enclosure, redesigning it to a new specification, heating the existing 50‑metre pool, or operating the 25‑metre pool without an enclosure.
