Hunter Valley Police District Commander Superintendent Steve Laksa said officers wish to speak with 37-year-old Christopher James McLoughney, who they believe can assist with the investigation.

“We are warning anyone who sees this man not to approach him but to call Triple Zero immediately,” Supt Laksa said.

“He may be in possession of a firearm and could be driving a 2008 black Hyundai Tucson, NSW registration DK75HP.”

Superintendent Laksa confirmed a firearm was discharged at the premises. A child who lived at the address is being cared for by extended family.

“The community of Cessnock – and the Hunter Valley as a whole – will be affected by the tragic death of this young mother,” he said.
