Old mine voids could be used for mass water storage

The State and Federal Government’s are being asked this morning to cough up 10 million dollars for a feasibility study into using some of our old mining voids for mass water storage.

The Hunter Lakes Corporation has its hands out for the cash after its plan received sign-off from the University of Newcastle’s Centre for Water and Land.

The Hunter Lakes Scheme seeks to use existing coal mine voids from Muswellbrook to Broke.

There is also the potential to create tourism opportunities as well.
