A NSW Police officer with strong ties to the Hunter has received international recognition this week for her bravery during the Westfield Bondi Junction stabbing incident in April 2024.
The International Association of Women Police awarded Detective Inspector Amy Scott, who is attached to Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command, with a Bravery Award. Inspector Scott was one of eight officers from around the world recognised for their extraordinary work, at a ceremony in Bali, Indonesia, on Sunday.
Inspector Scott grew up with close links to the region, having played junior football for Kurri Kurri and Cessnock as a teenager, and represented Northern NSW, before going on to a 19-year policing career.
The International Association of Women Police selected the recipients as examples of “the very best in law enforcement” for their bravery, professionalism and dedication. Detective Inspector Scott was recognised for her extraordinary courage and decisive action in response to the mass stabbing incident at Westfield Bondi Junction on 13 April 2024, in which six people died and 16 others were injured.
Detective Inspector Scott said receiving the award was an incredible honour.
“While I am deeply grateful for this recognition, I know that bravery is never an individual achievement,” she said.
“I am fortunate to work alongside an exceptional team who support, challenge and inspire me every day. Their dedication, courage and commitment make a lasting difference. I am immensely proud of my team and grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside such remarkable people.”
Inspector Scott previously received the NSW Police Commissioner’s Valour Award in 2024, for displaying exceptional bravery in a life-threatening situation at Bondi Junction.
