Upper Hunter Shire Council is calling on the community to help recognise the people and groups who make a difference, with nominations now open for the 2027 Australia Day Awards.
Council says countless people across the shire give their time, support local organisations and quietly contribute to their communities, and the awards are a chance to make sure those efforts are recognised. Anyone can submit a nomination, and the form takes only around five to 10 minutes to complete. Residents are being encouraged to nominate early rather than leaving it until the final days.
The 2027 categories are Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Local Champion of the Year and the Sustainability and Environmental Achievement Award for the Merriwa district.
Nomination forms are available from Council administration offices or can be completed online.
