Muswellbrook Shire Council has implemented a new organisational structure this week, aimed at strengthening its ability to navigate what it describes as the most significant period of economic change in the Shire’s history.
The restructure follows a comprehensive review intended to ensure Council has the capability, expertise and leadership needed to safeguard the Shire’s long-term economic future while continuing to deliver services to the community. A new Economic Investment Directorate has been established as part of Council’s broader Powering the Future Economy commitment, bringing together economic development and investment attraction, strategic projects, media and engagement, tourism and events, and the Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre.
General Manager Derek Finnigan said the changes were designed to reflect the community’s priorities while improving outcomes.
“Our community is in a period of significant change and Council has an important role in shaping what comes next,” he said.
“By strengthening our organisation now, we are ensuring Council has the capability and capacity to support the community through this change while improving the services our community relies on every day.”
Mayor Jeff Drayton said the Shire was at a defining economic crossroads.
“Right now, there isn’t a more important task for Council than managing these economic challenges and securing new jobs and industries for our community,” he said, adding the focus on economic development would help shape a prosperous future for current and future generations.
The restructure also establishes a new Corporate and Community Services Directorate, with a stronger focus on community services, customer experience, finance, procurement and property services, while the Infrastructure Directorate will place greater emphasis on delivering major infrastructure projects.
Council is currently recruiting for a number of positions across the new structure, with details available here.
