An Upper Hunter farmer is among 14 new scholarship recipients officially announced as part of Nuffield Australia’s latest cohort, unveiled at the National Conference in Darwin.
Ellenor Nixon, from Merriwa, is one of five scholars in this year’s group supported by the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund. Her research will focus on collaborative models between agriculture and conservation, investigating how balancing land stewardship with productive farming can build drought resilience, strengthen social licence and protect environmental health.
Over the coming 18 months, Nixon and the 13 other new scholars will undertake 14 weeks of international travel, investigating cutting-edge agricultural developments, global supply chains and emerging technologies, before sharing their findings with industry peers across Australia.
Each scholar receives a 40,000 dollar bursary to invest in global research and travel, giving them direct access to world-leading agricultural businesses, research institutions and policymakers. This year’s cohort joins a globally recognised alumni network that has represented Australian agriculture for 76 years.
