A man has been charged after Nazi symbols were allegedly displayed on a council‑issued bin in Cessnock. Police say they launched an investigation on 31 January after receiving reports of the defaced bin.
Officers from the Hunter Valley Police District made inquiries before issuing a 44‑year‑old man with a Future Court Attendance Notice on Thursday 5 February. He has been charged with knowingly displaying a Nazi symbol by public act without excuse.
The offence carries significant penalties under NSW laws introduced to combat the public display of hate symbols.
The man is due to face Cessnock Local Court on 19 March 2026.
