Upper Hunter Shire Council is inviting residents to provide feedback on its draft updated Flying-Fox Management Plan for Murrurundi, Aberdeen and Scone.
Council recognises that flying-fox camps can sometimes cause concern for residents, particularly when they are close to homes, schools, or community spaces. At the same time, these native animals play a vital role in pollination and maintaining the health of local ecosystems.
The updated plan takes a balanced, coordinated approach — aiming to support community wellbeing while protecting flying-foxes and their habitats.
The plan focuses on:
- Reducing impacts on the community
- Protecting flying-foxes and their habitat
- Managing health and safety risks
- Supporting clear communication and responsible management
The draft Flying-Fox Management Plan is now on public exhibition until 5 November 2025.
Residents can view the plan and make submissions via the Council’s website or at Council offices.
