Cunneen wins appeal against conviction

The NSW Court of Criminal Appeal has overturned the conviction of a man accused of helping dispose of the body of a Muswellbrook mum.

32-year-old James Anthony Cunneen was found guilty of being an accessory after the fact in connection to the murder of Carly McBride in 2014 and sentenced to a maximum seven and a half years jail.

But his appeal has been upheld and a new trial ordered.

This is not expected to occur until next year.

McBride’s boyfriend Sayle Kenneth Newsom recently had his appeal against his conviction for the killing and the length of his sentence rejected by the NSW Court of Criminal Appeal.

He was sentenced to a maximum 27 years jail.
