The lifting of a two-year ban imposed by China is being credited for a surge in thermal coal exports from the Upper Hunter.
The Australian reports new figures reveal our coal exports to the country in 2023 over-ran pre-pandemic levels, with more than 36 million tonnes of thermal and metallurgical coal.
The shipments are worth about 5-point-7 billion.

New South Wales coal export volumes reached more than 152 million tonnes last year, an increase of 6 percent.
