The Bush Fire Danger Period for the Liverpool Range District and Upper Hunter District, will begin on 1 September this year, a month earlier than usual.

The districts are among several neighbouring areas that will also bring forward their Danger Period start date, while all remaining districts across the state retain the standard commencement date of 1 October.

With the earlier start comes the requirement for fire permits, ensuring burning activities are carried out safely and appropriately under current and forecast seasonal conditions.

The RFS has also issued a reminder ahead of the fire season for the public to keep drones away from bush and grass fires. The service says a drone operating near a fire can prevent firefighting aircraft from safely operating, affecting the RFS’s ability to support crews on the ground and protect the community.
