Bus crash driver released on $10k bail

The bus driver involved in an horrific crash at Greta that killed ten people has been released on bail.

A group of family including Brett Andrew Button’s wife were inside Cessnock Local Court when he appeared in connection to the multiple fatalities.

The 58 year old had been in custody since the tragedy occured late on Sunday night.

Button is charged with numerous offences including ten counts of dangerous driving occasioning death.

Police allege he was driving too fast to safely negotiate the roundabout before crashing the bus which rolled over onto it’s side…coming to rest on top of a guard rail.

12 passengers remain in hospital…two in intensive care.

Police reportedly opposed bail on the grounds there was a risk Button would fail to appear to future court appearances and interfere with witnesses but Magistrate Robyn Richardson agreed to release him on strict conditional bail including he provide a ten-thousand dollar surety, not consume any drugs or alcohol, abide by a curfew and report regularly to police.

He reappear in court in August.
