$50,000 council legal bill over helipad fight

Upper Hunter Shire Mayor Maurice Collison said they had no choice but to back out of a court case over the rejection of a development application for a private helipad.

Sydney town planner John McFadden is now permitted to take off and land on his Merriwa property up to a total of seven times a week following the ‘cave-in’ at the Land and Environment Court.

Councillor Collison said the council was able to add some additional conditions in the process.

He said the fight had cost $50,000 and could have doubled or even tripled had they fought the case all the way in the court.
