Research Project: My Muswellbrook

Social researchers from the University of Newcastle are conducting a research project that aims to understand what is special about Muswellbrook to the people who live here and what people would like to see happen here in the future. They are inviting local residents to be part of a workshop that will explore people’s connection to place and hopes for the future. All workshop participants will receive a $30 voucher and food will be provided.

The project is a qualitative, place-based research project funded by BHP.  The researchers are in Muswellbrook for the next few weeks and will be conducting interactive workshops with community members at the University of Newcastle’s Upper Hunter Campus at 87 Hill Street in Muswellbrook.

Anyone who lives in Muswellbrook and who are over 14 years of age can participate in the workshops. The project is the first step in a process of community engagement that seeks to identify pathways for projects that BHP can support as the company moves toward the closure of Mt Arthur Coal Mine. The project will advance a concept for future place-based and community-owned projects that will serve as a foundation for community well-being and connection.
