Muswellbrook Shire Council has accepted the resignation of General Manager Derek Finnigan, following a career of more than four decades dedicated to Council and the Muswellbrook Shire community.
Finnigan’s resignation was accepted at Council’s Ordinary Meeting on Tuesday, 25 August 2026. He began his career as a plant operator in Council’s Works Depot, going on to serve in a wide range of operational, infrastructure and senior leadership roles. He was appointed Director of Community Infrastructure in 2018, Deputy General Manager in July 2020, and General Manager in March 2023.
Council said Finnigan is widely known throughout Council and the community for his kindness, humility, hard work and genuine dedication to the people of Muswellbrook Shire.
Current Director of Economic Investment Shaelee Richards has been appointed acting General Manager until a permanent replacement is recruited.
