Emergency Weather Warnings remain in place across the Muswellbrook and Hunter regions after the weekend downpour.
But in a bizarre twist, the Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting fine weather for the region for at least the next seven days, with no rain and temperatures ranging from the mid teens to low 20s.
More than 100 millimeters of rain fell in some areas on Saturday alone, while more than 60 mm fell over Muswellbrook.
Heavy snowfalls in some parts added to the weekend chaos, with hundreds of cars left stranded in snow drifts on and near the New England Highway.
The SES has conducted 18 flood rescues and responded to more than 1800 incidents across the region.
At least 26 schools across the Upper Hunter and mid north coast are closed today as a result of the flooding.

This morning residents in several areas around Singleton remain under evacuation alerts:
Castle Ford: Properties along the Eastern side of the New England Highway between White Falls Lane and Racecourse Lane; White Falls Lane; Newington Lane; Haggartys Lane; Racecourse Lane; Neotsfield Lane; Kanoona Lane.
Scotts Flat: Properties along Scotts Flat Road from Glendon Road to the river.
Combo: Properties along Combo Lane between the Levee and the river.
Advice warnings are in place for Singleton, Denman, Broke, Scone, Aberdeen, Rosebrook and Muswellbrook.
Evacuation orders were issued for parts of Scone yesterday before being lifted later in the day, while a search for a woman who was swept away in floodwaters at Cessnock resumed at first light this morning.
The wet weather is set to ease today although flooding is likely to continue for some time.
