Tom Cruise is renowned for his insistence on performing his own stunts, but after decimating his ankle attempting to leap between two buildings on the set of Mission Impossible – Fallout, it might be just about time for the 55-year-old to reconsider the need for a professional stunt double.
Shooting on the film was delayed for two months in August last year after shattering his ankle and the best thing (or perhaps the worst) is that whole gruesome incident was caught on camera from three separate angles.
During a recent appearance on the Graham Norton Show, Tom was kind enough to bring along all the footage that shows his ankle bending at angles no human ankle ever should after hitting a wall at full speed.
Ever the consummate professional, Tom managed to FINISH THE TAKE (I mean, I would have fallen off the building, screaming) before being taken to hospital.
"I knew instantly my ankle was broken and I really didn’t want to do it again so just got up and carried on with the take,” he said.
“I said, 'It’s broken. That’s a wrap. Take me to hospital'."
Check out the grisly footage below, but beware it’s not for the faint-hearted. I mean, Cruise’s own Mission Impossible co-star, Simon Pegg can be heard saying “I can’t watch this”, bfore adding that “nobody’s foot should have to do this, ever.”
For those looking to skip straight to the grisly stuff, the 2:45 mark is where its at.
Mission: Impossible—Fallout is due to hit cinemas on July 27, 2018.
