Muswellbrook High School was put into lockdown this morning after a threat was made.
Hunter Valley Police District officers were called on mass to the school at around 8:30am following reports from the school about a social media post suggesting a shooting would take place at the school today.
The school was put into lock down and police conducted a thorough sweep.
At this stage police believe the incident was a hoax and they are conducting investigations to determine who was responsible for the social media post and what possible motive there might have been.
The school returned to normal just after 10 o'clock.
Hunter Valley Police District officers say there is no need for parents or students to be concerned, the incident is isolated.
