Muswellbrook Shire Council will investigate how two major privacy breaches occurs within 24 hours in connection to a development application community consultation process.
The Hunter Valley Newsroom revealed details of the unauthorised publication and sharing of the personal details of up to 680 people including many residents opposed to the proposed 33-million dollar greyhound retraining centre at Martindale.
At least one formal complaint has been made to the Privacy Commissioner.
Muswellbrook Mayor Steve Reynolds said he understands the frustration some residents have.
"Things are being investigated at the moment and looked into.," he said.
"I was made aware of it yesterday morning. Whether they are privacy breaches with a submission being put forward Council will take that on board and act accordingly."
