Catching a train in the Upper Hunter will become a buss for the next four days.
All passenger and freight services have been halted north of Newcastle until Friday to allow major maintenance work to be undertaken.
A-R-T-C Group Executive for the Hunter Valley Wayne Johnson said they have planned to cause the least amount of disruption as possible.
"There will be an evening lane closure on the New England Highway at Bridge Street and a closure at Mangoola Road level crossing near Denman," he said.
"Temporary traffic controls will be put in place which motorists may want to take into account when planning your journey."
