The Scone Visitor Information Centre (VIC) and the Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre (SNRC) could be on the move.

Upper Hunter Shire Council has this week endorsed a proposal to relocate the Scone VIC to Campbells Corner.

Council said the advantage of moving the VIC includes greater visibility and central location, encouraging visitors to explore local cafes and retail outlets in Kelly street owing to proximity to the CBD; provides an opportunity to create a broader cultural/community hub with the adjoining library and arts space; there is ample space in the carpark behind Campbell’s Corner for dedicated caravan/RV parking and an electric vehicle charging station and the opportunity to design a vibrant, contemporary and attractive VIC space from scratch.

Mayor Maurice Collison said it comes after Council purchased Campbells Corner, and decided to put the library in downstairs.

"Council decided to move on with the do's and don'ts with moving the information centre down into the middle of the CBD and then maybe looking at the Scone Neighbourhood Centre taking over the old VIC up near Elizabeth Park," he said.

"There's still a lot to do, but I'm a great believer in the Information Centre being down in the hub of the town with caravan parking out the back and  coffee shops and street dining, I think it's nothing but a positive story."

Council did also endorse the proposal for the SNRC to be relocated to the Visitor information Centre.

The SNRC has indicated that the current VIC would be an ideal venue from which to deliver their services and allow for future expansion.

SNRC Manager Lee Watts said she couldn't be happier Council is looking at the option of moving the SNRC.

"It's past exciting, we are so excited about this, it's an incredible outcome,"

"We're really thankful Council is considering us for the Visitor Information Centre. We can expand our service by moving down there and we will be able to do so many more services especially around there being a cafe there, we would be able to create something that could generate income but also encourage and provide a space for people to improve their skills and continue on to full time jobs somewhere else and there's also an option there to play our movies, our breakfast van could sit there permanently, the options are just unlimited."
