Hunter Valley Rural Crime Prevention team conduct operation at Merriwa and Cassilis

The Hunter Valley Police District's (HVPD) rural crime team were out and about at Merriwa and Cassilis earlier this month. 

The HVPD Rural Crime Prevention Team conducted Operation Fleece on the weekend of November 6th which led to the arrest of three people, and saw a number of people handed penalty infringement notices.

The operation involved Rural Crime Investigators, Detectives, Highway Patrol and local sector police, as well as external agencies including the NSW Department of Primary Industries – Game Licencing Unit and the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment also assisted police during the course of the weekend.

The operation resulted in the arrest of three persons for traffic and drug related matters. A number of penalty notices were issued for traffic matters, matters dealt with under the Local Land Services Act and Companion Animals Act.

All police involved conducted a number of Livestock Carrier inspections in conjunction with Statewide Operation Operation Stockcheck which in an ongoing operation.

Numerous local landholders were spoken to by police during the operation who all agreed it was good to see the police in the rural areas of Merriwa and Cassilis. Police said they will be continuing these forms of proactive operations in a concerted effort with our external partners to drive down rural crime related offences.
