A man was seriously injured when 300 kilograms of metal plate fell on him at a Singleton workplace yesterday.

NSW Ambulance paramedics were called to the McDougall's Hill industrial site near Singleton just after 6:30am, Tuesday 15 July, following reports a man had become trapped in a shipping container after 300 kilograms steel plates had collapsed on him.

Seven paramedic crews including a specialist medical team and a rescue crew worked with a forklift to get the metal off the man, and then had to cut him out of the container.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service and the Toll Air Ambulance were also called to the scene but weren't needed.

The man aged in his 40s suffered serious injuries to his legs that were crushed under the weight of the plates.

NSW Ambulance media said that the man appeared to have been unloading the plates at the time of the incident.

He was taken to the John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.
